Simulation Studies on Recovery of Acetonitrile from Aqueous Acetonitrile Waste from Pharmaceutical Processes

This paper presents simulation studies on the recovery of Acetonitrile from aqueous waste pharmaceutical processes. The focus is atmospheric distillation in two sequential columns to understand separation feasibility system; first column produces a distillate azeotropic composition, which mixed with fresh stream and fed second column, 99.9% pure residue. effect reflux ratio, reboiler duty flowrate purity product analyzed. study was performed using steady state simulator Aspen Plus, version 11.1. results indicate that it possible obtain w/w 1:1 feed ~ 60%.
